テーマ | Understanding Contemporary American and British Culture and Values through Visual Media |
講義概要 (演習Ⅰ~Ⅳ) |
This seminar is for students who enjoy and want to use media sources--especially English language movies— to research about and explore their interests in almost any area of contemporary life in the English-speaking world. Among the topics most chosen by past students are those related to popular culture, modern lifestyles as well race and gender-related issues. In Enshu I & II we will take a historical approach to American and British culture and lifestyles. We will do this by looking at some of the key movies, documentaries, TV shows and popular culture expressions that were created in reaction to socio-cultural events and trends during 1950-2000. These will include movies, documentaries and TV shows that reflected the emergence of the teenager and counterculture in the 1950s and 1960s; the resistance of Black people to racism in the 1960s; the activities of feminists in the1970s and the multiculturalism and redefinition of family that first began in the 1980s and continues today. |
