To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ryukoku University’s Department of Intercultural Communication, an English haiku contest will be held. The winning haiku should capture universal themes, feelings and thoughts that go beyond any one culture and can be appreciated and enjoyed by people of all countries and cultures. The haiku should express emotions and notions shared by all members of the global community. The English haiku need not be composed of 17 syllables nor be in any particular fixed form, but must contain the brief, suggestive and profound spirit of haiku.

The contest is open to all students, graduate students, and graduates of the Department of Intercultural Communication. Each student or graduate student of the department may submit up to five (5) entries on the special haiku entry form. Graduates of the department should e-mail their haiku entries to stephenwolfe@yahoo.com and make sure to include their names and student numbers.

Haiku must be original and not yet published.
Haiku entries cannot be submitted to any other contest.
Haiku entries will not be returned.

THE FINAL DEADLINE FOR ALL ENGLISH HAIKU ENTRIES IS
NOVEMBER 30, 2005. Current students and graduate students may bring their entry forms with their haiku to the Kokusai Bunka Gakubu Kyomuka, and graduates of the department may e-mail their haiku any time between October 15 and November 30.
