Shoichi Matsumura is a Professor in the English Teacher Preparation Programs in the Department of Global Studies. He was a recipient of a Government of Canada Award and earned his Ph.D. in Language Education from the University of British Columbia, Canada. His current research interests include EFL teacher development and professionalism, critical policy analysis of early English education, and quantitative research methodology—particularly longitudinal data analysis using structural equation modeling with latent variables. He also employs mixed-methods approaches in the fields of educational psychology and foreign language learning and teaching. He has published a number of journal articles with major academic publishers, including Oxford University Press, Wiley, and John Benjamins.
