Short bio(略歴)

Jessica Bauwens-Sugimoto came to Japan with a MEXT scholarship, has master degrees in Japanese Studies, Cultural Anthropology, and Sociology, and got her PhD at Osaka University. She is currently associate professor at Ryukoku University, Faculty of International Studies and Graduate School of International Studies. Her research interests are film and comics, and her recent publications include, “Yoko Tsuno and Franco-Belgian Readers of Bande Dessinee” (in Women’s Manga in Asia and Beyond, Palgrave MacMillan, 2019), Erotic Comics in Japan: An Introduction to Eromanga (Amsterdam University Press, 2020, as a translator, with Patrick Galbraith, based on the Japanese by Nagayama Kaoru), and Comics Histories; Texts, Methods, Resources (with Christina Meyer and Felix Giesa, eds. 2024, Rombach)
