Shigeru Suzuki is a professor in the Faculty of International Studies at Ryukoku University. Suzuki specializes in anthropology and primatology, and has been conducting fieldwork on wild primates (Japanese macaques on Yakushima Island, gorillas and chimpanzees in African tropical forests) since undergraduate and graduate programs. His research interests lie in the coexistence of wild primates in society, with a particular focus on tolerance, within the context of human evolution. He is also interested in the foundations of culture, drawing insights from cultural behaviors observed in wild primates, such as tool use in chimpanzees. Through his studies of wild primate ecology, he has been involved in research on conservation practices in national parks and World Natural Heritage sites. He earned D.Sc. from the Graduate School of Science at Kyoto University in 1997. After serving as a board member of the Primatological Society of Japan, he currently serves as a committee member of the Evolutionary Anthropology Section of the Anthropological Society of Japan.
