An increasingly globalized world demands workers with high-level language and intercultural skills to play an active role at home and around the world. Representing our own contribution to the emerging types of language education required in global society, our post-graduate curriculum is designed to help teachers develop both practical expertise and a deep understanding of the cultural aspects of language teaching. Students will address international, education-related issues from various perspectives, analyzing them comprehensively, with the ultimate aim of contributing to cross-cultural problem solving through the deepening of mutual relations between students around the world.
In the first year, compulsory courses teach the basics of qualitative and quantitative research methods relating to the study of second language acquisition (SLA).
In order to cultivate a logical and practical foundation for the research of language education, we provide the three key courses: interpretation/translation, English education studies, and applied linguistics.
Starting with the seminar class in the first year, students receive guidance from a principal and deputy supervisor, acquiring basic knowledge in research methods, and cultivating analytical skills related to their research themes, culminating in the production of a Master's Thesis.
Students are taught by full-time faculty who are conducting research and activities on the international stage. 85% of teaching faculty have a postgraduate degree earned overseas, and most faculty members publish their research results in English.
The faculty provides a course allowing for the acquisition of an English teaching license for Japanese middle and high school.
