How do language learners hear the sounds of their second language? My research examines this question. Specifically, I study how speech sounds are perceived, stored in the mind, and produced by language learners. I also study how different training methods can be used to improve these factors in learners, as well as how to improve language instruction in the classroom.

My seminar will appeal to students who are interested in language learning and teaching. We focus on 1) theoretical aspects of language acquisition, and 2) practical aspects of language learning and teaching. For example, we study the best methods for teaching languages in the classroom, and how those methods are supported by research in language learning theory.

Learning a second language is not only about gaining a tool to accomplish some task. It is a way to expand your understanding of the world and to enrich your life. I encourage you to put effort into your language studies now so that you can enjoy a lifetime of reward.
